Esna is an Egyptian town in the region of Upper Egypt, located on the west bank of the river Nile some 54 km south of Luxor and 53 km north of Edfu.
- Temple of Esna. October-May 7am-4:00pm, June-September 7am-5:00pm. The large Graeco-Roman period temple of Khnum stands rather oddly beneath the level of the modern streets and houses, the result of its excavation from the accumulated debris of the town. The only remaining structure is the hypostyle hall, which is very well preserved and still has a lot of color on the columns and ceilings. The ticket office is around 200 m away from the temple (you can't see the temple from there), and connected by a covered souk that seems rather deserted (as of 2019). As you walk to the temple, keep a lookout on the left, as you pass the nice adobe minaret of the old Esna mosque. LE60.
