Uruapan

Uruapan (officially Uruapan del Progreso) is a city in Michoacan.

Founded in 1533 by Fray Juan de San Migue, Uruapan is the second largest city in the state of Michoacan. It is 110 km to southwest of Morelia, and is internationally famous for the excellent quality of avocado that are grown in the region.

  • Parque Nacional Barranco de Cupatitzio - A park with a stream going down the middle of the park with various style fountains and waterfalls. The river is fed by several springs and is very clear. Quite impressive.
  • Tzarárcua falls - After a 500-m descent by stairs or by horse a spectacular falls is reached. The water is pretty contaminated.

Behind the Huatápera there is a traditional food market which is open from the morning to late at night. There are others economical options on the adjacent street.
