Ngunguru is a coastal settlement in Northland, New Zealand. Whangarei is 26km to the south west. The Ngunguru River flows between the settlement and a long low sandspit into Whangaumu Bay, which stretches southwards. North of Ngunguru are Tutukaka and Matapouri. Just off the Ngunguru Coast are the Poor Knight Islands, a protected marine reserve. According to the 2013 New Zealand census, Ngunguru has a population of 1,527, an increase of 102 people since the 2006 census. Ngunguru is a Māori-language word meaning "rumbling tides".
