Tébessa or Tebessa (Arabic: تبسة Tibissa, Tbessa or Tibesti), the classical Theveste, is the capital city of Tébessa Province region of Algeria, 20km west of its Tunisian border. There is a phosphate mine nearby and the city is known for its traditional Algerian carpets. Tébessa was home to over 190,000 people in 2007.
