Plains of Abraham

Quebec City, Canada

Canada’s first national historic park! The National Battlefields Park is over a hundred years old. Its main sites are the Plains of Abraham (98 hectares) and Des Braves Park (5 hectares). The 1759 Battle of the Plains of Abraham was the defining confrontation between the French and British Empires in North America. Months later, in 1760, the two powers clashed again in the Battle of Sainte-Foy, where Des Braves Park now stands. Today the task of preserving and presenting this magnificent park—one of the world’s most iconic urban green spaces—falls to the National Battlefields Commission. This green heart of the city is a community focal point and welcomes some 4 million visitors, both tourists and locals, each year. The Plains of Abraham is also a leader in living history! Educational and entertaining activities, lively interactive activities, costumed characters, unusual places and dynamic exhibitions. Over 75,000 participants yearly. Period activities are our way of inviting you to meet the characters that embody the history of the Plains of Abraham, and to experience their everyday life. Between theatre and re-enactment, period presentations are meant as a dynamic approach to help us discover our heritage. The Plains of Abraham Museum is the gateway to the Plains, but most of all it is an invitation to discover the treasures of one of the most prestigious city parks in the world. Various exhibitions (with artifacts, iPad, etc.) and services offered (Web app, gift shop, etc.).
