Towards the north west corner of the island is a public park and has been a traditional camping site but was closed while the county was reviewing its use due to misuse of the area. As of 5/28/13 The Sand Spit has been re-opened. Please ensure you pick up after yourself and your dog and use the designated parking area to help ensure it stays open.
