Housed in a wonderful restored warehouse not far from the harbor in Borgarnes, the Settlement Centre offers a fascinating insight into the history of Icelandic settlement and the saga era. The Center contains a restaurant, gift shop and two exhibitions, one covering the discovery and settlement of the island, in which multimedia and theatrical techniques are employed to help the visitor experience first hand the trepidation and exitment of setting off over the open ocean for lands unknown. The other recounts the adventures and tales of the man behind Egil´s saga. Situated in the stone-walled basement of the Centre, the exhibition leads the visitor through the twists and turns of this fantastic Saga.. This is not your run – of – the – mill Icelandic folk museum- the Settlement Centre offers excellent insight into Iceland´s history and a firm context in which to place your Iceland's visit.
