The Grote Markt of Antwerp is situated in the heart of the old city quarter. At walking distance, the Scheldt river flows alongside the city. It is a town square with many guildhalls.
At Antwerp's Grote Markt, one can find:
* The City Hall, build on the fundaments of the burned down previous city hall;
* The guildhalls Sint-Joris at Grote Markt 7 and de Valk at Grote Markt 11;
* The Brabo fountain, statue created by Jef Lambeaux, about a city legend ;
* The Tourist Office;
* The Antwerp Jazz Club (AJC).
Around the market place, many restaurants and cafés are located. In winter time, it houses a Christmas market and an ice rink.
