Introduction

The historic centre of Modena is about 12 to 20 minutes walk from Modena train station.

The fastest route is not particularly easy to find, you need to go straight through the front door from the station and then follow the main street to Viale Monte Kosica.

When you reach this main road, look up and you will see a tall chimney in the distance, a red building on the right, and a modern artwork in front, similar to a bunch of wands.

In front of you, along a pedestrian zone, you will see a statue of a horse at the bottom of the chimney. Walk along the road through the sculpture (somewhat strange, but really want to go like this) and continue straight to the city center.

Of course, you can take the 11 or 11A bus to Zodiaco, which has a stop outside the entrance to the Duomo.

Modena (UK: , US: , Italian: [ˈmɔːdena] ; Modenese: Mòdna [ˈmɔdnɐ]; Etruscan: Mutna; Latin: Mutina) is a city and comune (municipality) on the south side of the Po Valley, in the Province of Modena in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy. Italian military officers are trained at the Military Academy of Modena, and partly housed in the Baroque Ducal Palace. The Biblioteca Estense houses historical volumes and 3,000 manuscripts. The Cathedral of Modena, the Torre della Ghirlandina and Piazza Grande are a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. Modena is also known in culinary circles for its production of balsamic vinegar.Famous Modenesi include Mary of Modena, the Queen consort of England and Scotland; operatic tenor Luciano Pavarotti and soprano Mirella Freni, born in Modena itself; Enzo Ferrari, eponymous founder of the Ferrari motor company; Catholic priest Gabriele Amorth; chef Massimo Bottura; comics artist Franco Bonvicini; the band Modena City Ramblers and singer-songwriter Francesco Guccini, who lived here for several decades.

Lausanne (, also US: , French: [lozan], German: [loˈzan]; Arpitan: Losena [lɔˈzəna] ; Italian: Losanna; Romansh: Losanna) is the capital city and biggest town of the canton of Vaud in Romandy, Switzerland. A municipality, it is situated on the shores of Lake Geneva (French: Le/Lac Léman). It faces the French town of Évian-les-Bains, with the Jura Mountains to its north-west. Lausanne is located 62 kilometres (38.5 miles) northeast of Geneva. The municipality Lausanne has a population of about 140,000, making it the fourth largest city in Switzerland, with the entire agglomeration area having 420,000 inhabitants (as of March 2015).
