Brig How to

Brig Train Station is an important railway hub for the municipality of Brigue-Glis in Valais, Switzerland. Opened in 1906, it is adjacent to the northern portal of the Simplon Tunnel and consists of three standard gauge lines and two meter gauge lines.

Two of the three standard lines serving Brig were opened at the same time in 1906.

One of them is the Simplon Railway, which connects Genève-Aéroport, Genève and Lausanne with Lake Geneva via Sion and Visp. The other is the Milan-Domodossola railway, which, as the name suggests, connects Italy's Milano Centrale with Italy's Domodossola. In 1906, when the Simplon Tunnel was opened, the line extended to Brig.

The third line of the Brig standard gauge line was the Lötschberg railway line, which opened in 1913. It connects Bern with Brig through the Lötschberg passage, including the Lötschberg tunnel. In 2007, this route largely replaced the new railway line (NRLA) through the Alps, through the Lötschberg base tunnel (Bern and Spitz) and Visp near Brig. Trains that travel to Visp along the NRLA line usually continue to Brig via the Simplon line.

Standard passenger trains parked in Brig are operated by SBB CFF FFS (Simplon Railway, Milan-Domodossola Railway and NRLA) or BLS AG (Lötschberg Railway).
